Cosas que nunca olvidarás de tu Erasmus (Raquel Piñeiro, Amaia Arrazola)


Si bé és cert que des d’aquest blog no s’acostumen a fer ressenyes bibliogràfiques, el cas és que aquest llibre mereix (o hauria de merèixer) tota la nostra atenció: una publicació plena de dibuixos simpàtics i tòpics Erasmus súper reals!



La idea d’aquest llibre va sorgir d’un article que va escriure la mateixa Raquel Piñeiro (que, per cert, confessa que no va marxar mai d’Erasmus, però tenint en compte el llibre que ha parit, li perdonarem aquest petit detall...) (bé, va marxar de «Séneca»). Doncs bé, l’article es va publicar en una revista viatgera i poc a poc va començar a córrer com la pólvora. Ja sabeu com van aquestes coses: quan una cosa té èxit, acabes trobant-la per tot arreu. I una mica va ser el que va passar: l’article va ser molt comentat i molt compartit, i poc a poc la idea de fer un llibre es va anar perfilant. Si a això li sumem les il·lustracions de l’Amaia Arrazola, ja tenim un bon document on desembocar la nostàlgia que provoca l’experiència Erasmus en les vides de qui ho ha viscut.

I és que, realment, ho claven tot.

El llibre es divideix en diversos capítols, com si fos un calendari: des que et confirmen la beca fins que marxes d’allà amb les llàgrimes regalimant i inundant el carrer. Això inclou, així a grosso modo:

1.      Tota la burocràcia i «papeleos» varis, tant al lloc d’origen com al lloc de destí. A vegades demanes una ciutat i te’n donen una altra, a vegades (quasi sempre) vols convalidar certes assignatures i no t’encaixa, etc. Tot un món i molta paciència.

2.      L’arribada: l’idioma, l'haver de buscar allotjament, començar a conèixer gent tota de cop (gent que parla llengües diverses, clar), carnets, transports, el ritme de la ciutat, els carrers.... tot nou, tot molt màgic i una mica estressant.

3.      Els amics que comencen a ser-ho TOT perquè allà només els tens a ells i són la teva FAMÍLIA fins que marxes d’allà. Festes, excursions, experiències, begudes estranyes i sopars amb plats de tot el món (i els d’aquí sempre amb la truita de patates, que no falti...)

4.      El moment en què per fi descobreixes que et sents a gust i que tot encaixa: entens l’idioma, coneixes el barri i la ciutat, estàs bé, tot és fantàstic i fins i tot t’atreveixes a anar al cinema.

5.      Els amics que vénen a visitar-te i et porten GRANS REGALS com ara un fuet, uns pots de tomàquet fregit, algun medicament que saps que funciona bé, pernil ibèric envasat al buit... i pipes. Sí, pipes! Els paquets de pipes no es troben a depèn quins països!!!!

6.      I quan marxes.... el dia més trist. El dia que recordaràs durant molt de temps... el dia que has de dir adéu als amics («et vindré a veure!»), deixar el teu pis, la teva forma de viure... tornar al lloc d’on véns... POT ARRIBAR A SER MOLT DUR. (La síndrome posterasmus pot ser tan llarga com la vida mateixa).


Bé doncs aquests són alguns dels exemples que s’intenten plasmar en el llibre. Jo crec que és una obra que la gaudirà SENSE DUBTE qui hagi anat alguna vegada d’Erasmus o tingui pensat anar-hi, però també aquelles persones que no n’han fet mai cap i vulguin més o menys saber què se sent.

Tal com es diu a la darrera pàgina, «El Erasmus es una de esas épocas que pasan por tu vida tan intensas como breves, pero capaces de quedarse en tu memoria para siempre. Quien lo probó lo sabe».

Pràctiques a Longwood Gardens, Estats Units

Si teniu interès a fer pràctiques a l'estranger i us agradaria viatjar als Estats Units, ara en teniu l'oportunitat! Longwood Gardens busca un estudiant per treballar a la biblioteca i als arxius de la institució. És una oferta interessant, ja que és remunerada i dóna opció a allotjament gratuït.

International Library Science Internship PositionLongwood Gardens, in the Philadelphia area

Longwood Gardens Library and Archives seeks a Library Science or Archival Studies (or equivalent) graduate student or recent graduate to gain experience in the operations and management of a special library and institutional archives.  The program is open to students currently enrolled in and pursuing studies at a degree- or certificate-granting post-secondary academic institution outside the United States or a student who has graduated from such an institution no more than 12 months prior to his or her exchange visitor program begin date.

Interns work in each section of the unit—Library, Digital Gallery, and Archives—to develop projects aimed at furthering the professional interests of the student while working to achieve unit strategic goals. 

Position is available: Sept. 2015 - May 2016

Located in Kennett Square, PA, Longwood Gardens is approximately 45 minutes southwest of Philadelphia. 

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform basic reference interviews and services.  Become familiar with, and able to train others in, using Longwood Gardens' EOS International integrated library system (ILS), OCLC WorldCat, JSTOR, and other relevant databases.
  • Arrange and describe archival collections, develop finding aids, and make recommendations regarding storage, conservation and preservation treatment of archival materials
  • Perform circulation maintenance routines, such as check-in/check-out, shelve books and compile usage statistics.
  • Assist and train patrons in the use of computers and software, A/V equipment, and copier.
  • Assist with Interlibrary Loan tasks as needed.
  • Assist with digitization/scanning projects.
  • Learn cataloging procedures and assist in cataloging materials (or object collections) as needed.
  • Assist with project work involving digital imaging, the ILS, and the Archives.
  • Perform various daily administrative and technical tasks.
  • Participate in student activities and field trips as scheduled.

Applicants must be active and ambitious learners and are expected to strive for efficiency and a high level of quality in all tasks performed. The willingness to follow all supervisor instructions and Longwood safety procedures is essential. Candidates must be independent-natured, able to perform repetitive tasks, and lift 50 lbs.  Some weekend and evening hours might be required. 

Qualifications

  • Be pursuing or have recently completed a graduate program in Library Sciences or Archival Management studies.
  • Be able and willing to work independently.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to deal with people in a courteous, patient, and professional manner. 
  • Have physical ability to push fully-loaded book carts and handle heavy or oversize volumes.  Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Be willing to follow all of Longwood Gardens' policies and procedures.
  • Have a valid driver's license.

The position extends throughout 9 months, full time, 40 hours per week.  This is a paid position with optional free housing provided.  Longwood Gardens offers a mandatory medical insurance plan (does not include dental or eye care) to all International Program participants. All Internationals are required to have health insurance coverage.

  4. A reference from a current or former employer, preferably within your field of interest (provided in English and enclosed in an envelope with your employer’s signature over the seal).
  5. Proof of proficiency in English (a letter from your academic advisor or professor regarding your understanding and use of the English language OR results of TOEFL examination).
  6. Proof of International Driver’s License.
